I am using Windows XP Media Center on Sony VAIO desktop. I followed the MKV conversion guide in order to convert a MKV movie to an avi file. I like to burn 2 movies on a 4.7 disk. I use Nero to burn (because I'm used to it). So I downloaded AVI2DVd and a AVI codec (recommended with AVI2DVD). When I hit the go button, the process starts but ends in the video conversion process with: MPEG2 encoder has encountered a problem and needs to close. This closes the AVI2DVD program. Here is the log: [6:51:14 PM] AVI2DVD Started ! [6:51:15 PM] Type mode : Avi Input [6:51:15 PM] Output : Dvd [6:51:15 PM] Encoder Selected : HCEnc [6:51:15 PM] Start demuxing the AudioStream No.1 ... Not familiar with Avi2DVD but I have used AlltoAvi for a few mkv: http://alltoavi.sourceforge.net/ AC3 Filter maybe.
Thanks. I DL AlltoAVI and ran my MKV thru it. The file was converted to AVI and it plays thru VLC. However, when I try to burn it thru Nero (Add files function), Nero aborts. Don't understand why. I took that converted AVI file and converted that to MPEG and Nero accepted the MPEG file?? I'm no where near a pro with all of this, but all of these nuances drive me crazy. I'll keep working with AlltoAVI. Thanks again.
Your procedure is very convoluted. Since you mention Avi2Dvd I assume you want a standard DVD. There is no reason to go from MKV to AVI then to DVD. There are many apps out there that will simply convert MKV to DVD without an intermediate AVI step. DVD Flick and AVStoDVD should both work.
You're right. I have a convoluted process, but it's because I have not found a DVD program that I like (including DVDFlick). I tried DVD Flick and I just don't like it (although it works). I like (and accustomed to Nero. It does what I like and want. I want to eliminate as many steps as possible, so if you know of a program that prvovides Nero functionality (which include MKV processing), please let me know. Thanks for your reply.
ConvertXtoDVD will burn your mkv. Simple menu capability but not free and the trial leave's a watermark in your video.
Thanks. I'll take a look at this. I guess it's time to get into another DVD burning program, so I'm working with ConverttoDVD.
