    Hi
Built another pc over xmas but it isn't detecting the pci-e graphics card. The mobo is a msi GF615M-P33 and the card is a nividea 9800gt.My son has the almost identical computer but his card is a gtx.His computer detected the card straight away.I have tried turning off the onboard graphics and then installing it but no joy,its as if its just not there:(.I also tried another graphics card and that did the same thing.Everything else is fine its just the pci-e that don't work.
Do you think the mobo could be faulty ?
    Any advice would be appreciated

if memory serves it does need additional power, but possibly not if it is a Energy Efficient (EE) model, also this problem is probably not what you are experiencing, but some (all?) motherboards with 1st generation pci-e x16 are not compatible with anything over 2.0 spec x16, i found that out after no luck with a 5xxx series radeon in a 2007 hp pavilion.
can you list the make and model number of the video card?

Its a pny9800gt graphics card, but we have a new problem now which i think has made the mobo kaput. He flashed the bios after reading that it would help and now all he is getting is a black screen even with the onboard graphics.
Its really bugging me and i would like to know if there is any hope for it now or wether i should just get another mobo

    Thanks in advance

it's not all bad, some mobos are able to be reflashed, check the manufacturer support site or google for some possible solutions
