I'm having a problem with my xbox. I bought an original xbox in South Korea back in 2005. It worked fine until recently. The I'm not sure if it's the hard drive or the disk player. First of all I couldn't play a lot of my games that I had downloaded on my hard drive. I erased them thinking the files were corrupted. I rented a few of the games that I had and redownloaded them onto the drive. I got the same thing happened, either they were very slow, or I got a message that the disk was unreadable. The same thing happened when I put the disk itself into the cd drive. I thought that it was just the hard drive, so I flipped the switches on the side of the xbox and turned the mods off. When I tried to play the actual games on the xbox I recieved an error message that the cd was an improper region or I wasn't using an xbox game. That only happens with American games. I don't have any games in the Korean format to test this theory, but I do know that American games used to work fine with the mods turned off. The only thing that I can think that may have caused this problem is when my xbox was jarred rather hard. The only thing that I can't figure out is why some games work fine without anyproblems whatsoever, and why some games won't work at all, or with great difficulty. I paid $350 for this thing. Yes I've gotten my money's worth out of several times over, but I would like to keep it a while longer and I think that it would be nice to have it in proper working order. Thanks for any help you can provide.
I'd start with a clean dashboard install! Get AID v4.10 and install a new dashboard. Failing that, replace the HDD, from the sounds of it you have a modchipped Xbox. Simply purchase a PC IDE drive, replace it, boot with the chip on and insert either 'Slayers' or AID v4.10 and build the HDD from scratch!
The problem with that is my hard drive is 180 GB and has a lot of stuff on it. Is there anyway that I can save the files that I have stored on it?
not quite stuffed, but I have some emulators on it, saved games, and some other xbox games that still work. There is still one thing that I don't understand. I have one game on my hard drive, Star wars: KOTOR, when I try to play it from the hard drive, it says disk is dirty or damaged, I can put a fresh out of the case game cd in there of the exact same game and I will get the same message. Why is that?
