Pardon my ignorance, but I haven't modded anything since my playstation about 8 years ago..... so I am a little behind in the times. If there is a thread that explains what I am asking, then please direct me to it. What are the advantages and disadvantages of hardmodding vs. softmodding? I understand some of the basics about being banned from xbox live and such, I am more concerned with the ease of copying games to the hard drive and general functionality. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. My AOL screen name is KtBjR if anyone is interested in chatting on this topic. Thanks!!
Here is a little more info regarding my question: 1) I am not interested in playing on Xbox live at all. 2) I am interested in installing a 250GB hard drive. 3) I would like to install a emulators and media player. 4) I would like to have the ability to FTP games back and fourth between my PC and Xbox. 5) I want to place my original games into the DVD drive on my xbox and copy them to the HDD. Will hardmodding vs. softmodding effect any of the above?
okay guys, I answered my own questions. I missed the softmodding FAQ my first time around. However, I do have a question that I didn't see an answer to. Regarding functionality, is there anything a hardmod can do that a soft mod cannot? For example, are there certain games that will play on a hard mod, but not on a soft. I plan Softmodding and replacing the stock HD.... looks like I can do it.
Anything you'll pretty much want to do with your xbox you can do it with a softmod, especially if you don't want to get on XBL,but there are ways to still even do that with a softmod. The only problem is getting a hold of the softmod, which can be tricky and there some that are easier to do than others.
I am going to start by using the stock harddrive. If I get it working, then I will attempt to replace it with a bigger one. So this is what I have. I want to softmod, upgrade the harddrive, and eventually be able to FTP back and forth. Am I missing anything? Thanks for the help guys. I need to wait for xbox, splinter cell, and action replay to be shipped. Once I get them, I'll give it a crack and post my results.
Is there a benefit to installing a mod chip over softmodding? I figured it would be easier to do it this way. What is better about the modchip? I remember back in the day when I chipped my PS and all of my friends PS's, on occation the solder would come loose and I would have to open it back up again.
Of course modchip is way better than softmod. It is easy to fix your xbox if it run in problems. Upgrade hdd very simple. Everything much easier then softmod. the X3ce is very good chip. Plus they have solderless adapter. So you get no solder at all. PPL do softmod because they want to go Live. Plus save money. But if they fusk up. It is very hard to fix the xbox.
It is very slow. I heard there was a chip that can be turned off if you want to go live. But I like the solderless idea. Can you refer me to a site that sells that chip? do you have personal experience with the X3ce.
Go here. then click on the chips. http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/cat_xbox.html for the guides goto teamxecuter site. you can read this also http://teammodders.com/viewtopic.php?t=60 Try to visit my page. Just click on my name or follow the link in my sig. I have a lot of xbox info there.
