There doesn't seem to be much contribution by the moderators in the DVD Forums. Moderators should give their opinions on [bold]all[/bold] of the threads posted. If you dont have enough mderators, add another one or two, im sure there are plenty willing. We need more feedback from DVD R experts or people with a lot of experience. Apart from that the site is very good, i just think more moderator contribution would make it excellent.

Our moderator's main function is to.. erm.. moderate the forums. They aren't always the experts in specific areas, but they are people who are willing to go through hundreds and hundreds of posts each day and tackle AUP violations when necessary.

Yeah..I know and agree with you. But it does reflect well on the forum to see the moderators answering the questions that haven't been asnwered yet!
    Just a suggestion :)

True, but we would need 30 moderators then -- forums get 400-500 posts a day :)

Are moderators paid? If not, im sure there are plenty willing to take on that position. All the After dawn addicts and senior members should be given a chance to become a moderator at some point. That way its more like a 'community' rather than an information resource!

OK ok....I know im a pain in the ass! ;-)

Mods aren't paid and yes, that's how they get picked -- addicted users are hand-picked and asked if they would like to get mod powers. But we want to keep the number of moderators rather limited, their main function is, as I said before, to keep the "forums clean" from spam, etc.

And also, giving mod rights to users also limits their output -- they can't "freely" speak after they have moderator status, since their opinion can be easily taken as "AfterDawn's opinion" -- which is why we want to keep our most craziest posters wild and free to post their own ideas and comments without thinking about the strings attached to them :)

And no, I don't get annoyed, you've given plenty of very, very good feedback and I truly appreciate that (I work on "real life" as a programmer and I'm rather tired of logging support calls that state nothing but "it doesn't work" -- kinda teaches you to appreciate well articulated feedback :).

Thanks dRD. I see your point about mods speaking their opinion. hadnt thought of that.

    Great forum anyway!

There are some very good moderators. However, there are some moderators who are very short on positive words to help an individual. Some assume that you are suppose to already know the answer.

As an example, if you are in the wrong area, a good response would be: You can best find that answer or response in following areas".

An effort should be made to make postive comments. I know it is a challenge given some of the respopnses that I have read. Moderators should be able to get around these comments.

I admire and value the moderators for their knowledge and their desire to help others.

Allenc: I think all mods and admins deep down are nice and cuddly people (except loaded ;-), but it eventually gets you when you have to tell 75 people within one single day not to post their DVDXCopy questions to PS2 forums, etc :)

....well, I don't find it a problem, I rarely think before logging a post ;-)

Correct, I am a little Nazi, sitting behind the anonymity of his keyboard and the protection/comfort that provides :-D

I like to think I deal with everyone with the same, even handed, equal contempt.

    Paul.
