I am coming to the end of building my first computer, but i am really stuck on connecting the case wires to the motherboard panel. I have an Asus P5Q pro motherboard installed. I have connected the Restart, LED power, HDD power cables to it, but there are 4 pin's left (one for voltage, 2 for ground and one for speaker).

However i have like 10 cables left and have no idea which ones to connect to which. The list of cables i have left are labelled as follows:

    1) + D
    1) ground
    1) -D
    1) +5v

    2) + D
    2) ground
    2) -D
    2) +5v

    Mic in
    Ground
    Speaker Right
    Speaker Left
    Mic Bias
    Return R
    Return L.

If anyone could tell me where to connect these cables on the motherboard i specified above it would be a great help. Thanks

    1) and 2) are for front USB ports, they will be marked as such. They should theoretically be in a brick of four pins, not separate, which will make it easier to install them.

The others are for HD audio, this should all be explained in the motherboard manual.

Thanks for designating which cables are what (makes it much easier), but ive consulted the manual for the motherboard and the connections for each of those ports are completely baffling to me and dont correspond to the labels of the cable at all.

The ports for the HD audio slot on the motherboard are:

    Port 1L
    Port 1R
    Port 2R
    Sense_SenD
    Port 1L
    Sense2_Retur
    Sense1_Retur
    Pressense
    Ground.

And as for the USB ports on the motherboard, i think i know where the different cables go, but im just wondering on which slot (there are 3 different ones) if it even matters and if i can put 2 lots in on the same port (since there are 2 lots on any one port):

    Usb1112:
    USB+5v
    USB_P11-
    USB_P11+
    GND
    NC
    GND
    USB_P12+
    USB_P12-
    USB+5V

    USB910

    USB+5v
    USB_P9-
    USB_P9+
    GND
    NC
    GND
    USB_P10+
    USB_P10-
    USB+5V

    USB78

    USB+5v
    USB_P7-
    USB_P7+
    GND
    NC
    GND
    USB_P8+
    USB_P8-
    USB+5V

Could you can confirm and clarify which ones go where or if i even have the right slots on the motherboard. Thanks

Lifted from the P5Q Pro Manual:
    http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/3572/p5qproaudiolr9.jpg

    Mic in - Port1R
    Ground - GND
    Speaker Right - Port2R
    Speaker Left - Port2L
    Mic Bias - Port1L
    Return R - Port2R
    Return L - Port2L

The speaker connection goes in the speaker part of the front panel connectors (power switch etc, in the brick of four the same colour)

Thanks for replying. I have plugged in the cables to the slots as you specified, but I dont seem to have a speaker connection. The only ones i have are Speaker R and L, and you said they go in the audio port on the back of the motherboard

Thanks Sammy, after a quick rewiring with my audio connectors (got one the wrong way around) the sound works.

No problem, glad I could help. I never usually bother with all this, I find having an external sound card far easier!
