    Hi,
I've just got 2nd hand, a A7V400-MX Asus Motherboard fitted with a AMD Socket A 2.2Ghz CPU, and a JEANTECH LIGHT FUSION case fitted with a 450w PSU, now the thing is this I had to disconnect the PSU from the m/board, and on doing so noticed some very odd blacking to the cable looks very much like its been burnt but doesnt smell like it it, so does anyone have any ideas whats going on.

Oh I'm in the UK aswell just so you know.

Why did you have to remove it?

What colour cable is 'blackened', and what pin number in the ATX connector?

Are there any capacitors on the motherboard that are 'bulging'?

Did the PC actually boot up etc before you removed it?
If not, have you another PSU you can try instead?

[bold]I had to remove it to fit the HD[/bold]

[bold]it the white power cable that comes from PSU, and pins +12.0VDC, +5.0VDC, +5VSB, +5.0VDC, PWR_OK, -5.0VDC, plus some others are blackened[/bold]

[bold]not sure as dont know what they look like[/bold]

[bold]didnt at first till i took my agp graphics out then it worked fine, using pc now, and seems fine[/bold]

Also the PSU was bought seperatly to the case so may have been like this when fitted maybe, as guy i got it of isnt the best when selling pc stuff, should stay clear but get good deals sometimes.

I got the case, m/board, cpu, and 1GB memory, for £55 plus part exchanged my old Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz,
Asus P4 533 Terminator Base Unit, 512MB DDR RAM, what do you think good deal or not.?

It sounds like the PSU was removed from a system that that suffered a motherboard failure.

    White pin is -5vdc.

Even though the PSU and system seem fine, considering the cost of PSU's I would buy another one just to be on the safe side.
If that PSU is failing or has suffered from transients, if it fails it could cause more damage............and you'll be back to sqaure one........

I am in the UK, you can pick those up cheap from ebay, overclockers, planet micro, eclipse computers.................

Maybe worth just buying another case with the PSU already fitted (usually cheaper), but if you want to keep the caae, go for another PSU....................

Cheers baabaa, same thoughts here now I'm gonna buy a new PSU only because with all the neons fitted the case looks sweet now.

So just going to buy new PSU then completely rebiuld system and tidy up the cables and I think maybe another neon strip in top of case.

Shame I couldnt show you some pics of it.
