Quick question about motherboards, What exactly do they do? I know everything connects to the motherboard and it comes with basic sound and graphics but, if you get a good graphics card why would you need a expensive motherboard other than the fact that a cheap one could burn out? Thanks cause im planning on making my own comouter soon...
For example, you cant ocerclock your processor with all cheap motherboards, you cant use two graphics card if you dont have sli/crossfire support and two pcie- slots. Some boards dont support enough memory or memory fast enough or they might heat too much. You might not have enough USB:s or SATA slots etc...
Yeah no real BIG problems for me, but... way too many little problems, i'll just get a good Intel MOBO. Im sure there are even more little reasons that add up.. thanks for the help
Hey I linked to this thread since I'm not getting any answers on my post: I'm looking at 2 ASUS micro ATX boards. The first one is a M2A - VM. It's bundled with a AMD 64x2 5200 2.7GHz cpu. The other board is a M2N MX SE Plus. I'm still looking at which cpu I may want. If anyone knows anything about the 2 boards I'm looking at I could use some advice. I don't really plan on doing heavy gamming, I was just going to try one of them to see how they do. If it seems good I might buy some more for builds to sell. I'm going to run XP Pro on it. I've looked on newegg and read the pro's and con's on both and even though they are not the top of the line, I still think they fit a budget and seem like they might be a nice build. I'm still hooked on my ASUS A7N8X boards with Athlon XP 2500, 2600 cpu's since I've built about 6 of them and they all run great. It's just time to sell them and go to the next level. I like AMD, and ASUS but I'm opem for other boards that have a friendly BIOS like the A7N8X boards have. Please post or PM me if you have any idea's. I've sold so much on ebay and the money is starting to pile so I'm ready to start buying new stuff again.
BTW, Intel motherboards don't overclock. Dan, I don't know anything about those boards, but you should try looking up reviews. Another good alternative is a GA-EP35-DS3L and a E5200 CPU.
I take it you were talking about the Dell I have that in BIOS setup wont let me put in the right memory setting. Your right I need to do some more checking about these boards. I guess when your doing that it can raise more questions thats why I posted with AD. The board you said is a intel board full ATX. I don't know why I stick to AMD other then I've had zero problems with them. I know a few people that use AMD and have nice gamming systems, and the price seems to be lower with AMD. One thing I do know, after purchasing this Dell, I have made up my mind that it's the last brand name system I'll buy. I'll just stick to my own builds, at least I know when I'm buying a cheaper system rather than finding out that once you get it your stuck with it. One other thing I noticed about mobo's if they don't have everything intergrated into the board it can be a good thing since the board manufacturer gives the buyer more choices on what they want without the PCB already having parts of it not needed. I guess this is a coin toss. One last thing is I know I'm a little bit behind the times by looking at these two boards since the cpu's have increased alot over the last year so it leaves the boards I'm looking at old news so to speak. Hey thanks for your input I guess I should start looking at more boards and stay open minded about which boards I look at.
I was talking to knuckles about the comment about the Intel boards. He said he was gonna get an Intel board. As for you(dan), I would go with the Intel build. See, that is a 2.5Ghz CPU and it's much faster than any AMD that runs at 2.5ghz. It's like the AMD vs Intel situation of old where AMD used to have more efficient CPUs, but opposite. The thing with Intel CPU is that if both a Core 2 Duo and any AMD CPU are at 2.5Ghz the Intel will be faster. TO have a faster AMD CPU you need more Ghz with the AMD. BUT the Intels overclock much more. So they are faster at the same amount of frequency(ghz) they can also attain MORE frequency. For example the CPU I suggested is 2.5ghz. If you also get that board I suggested you can easily hit 3.5ghz with it.
I thank you guys for your feedback. I guess I've been away too long and not doing my home work with the new boards, I had so many Athlon XP systems I just figured that AMD kept up with the pace they had and I had good luck with all the ASUS boards I had/have. I've been selling the older builds I have to make way for some new systems, but I should not knock Intel to much, I purchased two Dells for all my online stuff and didn't like them much the one I still use has the celeron processor in it so need I say more! That was my hang up with Intel and I guess I should have just contacted Dell for the simple reason they were a little misleading with the model I got. That is the last one I buy. So back to the reason I'm here. I'll take my time and check out the Intel based boards and go from there. I've been watching newegg since they don't jack you around like tigerdirect does. Thanks spamual and abuzar1, and if I can quote Knuck1ez, I'm going to build a comouter too
