Friday I have to get a new cell phone. I'm with the best service provider, Cingular. I want a Motorola v551 I was wondering if it was a good phone. Thanx
i got the v551 and i also have cingular service. I guess the experience of the cell phone provider depends on your own personal experience, but for me I found the service to be excellent, I love the rollover thing, and since I travel across the country and outside the country and they cover all the places I go to. The customer service still needs some work cause it seems like they took the attitude from at&t in my view. hope it helps Paul
Thanks Paul I had a Nokia 6010 but it broke. I find the service with cingular good too. Like you I have rollover. Friday I'm getting the Motorola v551 Now that I know it's a good phone.
I am looking at this phone too and was told that the battery life is not so good on it. And as well that the manual was problematic. Since I am due for an upgrade, up here in Canada you do it over the phone which is through AT & T as if you do it in the stores there is a charge for the phone and a mail in rebate where over the phone they give you the rebate right away and also in the store they charge a $35 activation fee which is not charged by AT & T and the stores will not give you support... that means that you have to be able to understand the manual which as I said earlier is supposed to be poor. I as well would like to hear responses. Thankyou
LOL yea the manual is not as good as i expected but i dealt with alot of cells so i can pretty much figure it out and if your getting the v551 its pretty easy to setup and so far I had the phone for about 2 months and the battery life is very good, somewhere between 3 and 4 days without needing a recharge on stand by and i dont know how long on talk time cause the longest i have talked was about an hour and a half, the cell gets warm but that happens with most cells and that was on a full charge so i had about 2/3 of a charge left. Also i think you can find the manual online if its not clear enough or just find people like me who have experience with the v551, I am always floating around somewhere LOL Paul
Thx for the reply Paul, it really helps. The phones are $149 Canadian and that's with a 3 year plan at $68.40 per month which is for 300 min/mo, enhanced voice mail, 1000 min eve/wkends starting at 6 pm and so I don't want to make a wrong choice. The batteries, I understand to be lithium and I thought that they did not have a memory like the old nicads, but the rep from Motorola said that one should run them right down before charging and that's why I inquired about the battery life; as I then would need obviously a second battery. i hope that you see this post. Cheers and again thankyou!!!
wow your phones are expensive, i got mine through cingular for 29.99 with a 2 year contract with 39/month plan with 400 anytime and 5000 nights and weekends. The battery is lith ion and yes the reason you let it discharge all the way cause these batteries have a "memory" and a full discharge teaches it that the battery is truely empty and you will get a full charge, but I noticed with some phones that when you put them to charge they automatically discharge the battery then recharge it again but i dont know if this feature is on our v551. I just was corrected the cell batteries dont have that memory affect so the above statement is incorrect, however the cell batteries are more efficent now so the battery life should be respectable. and no problem anytime mate!!! Paul
i have a 551. it is pretty kool because you can record video and use skins, but besides for that it is just like any other moto phone
I have a v551 and it is a piece of sh**. The button sticks that senses when it flips open and the charger connection is crap. After a while it gets verry difficult to charge. I know people that have other motorola flip phone models and have the same problem. I just made a warrenty claim and am selling the new one on ebay. Just got a Nokia 6230, thats the way to go, much more reliable and more features!
I have the v551 and my dad has the 6230. Honestly, I prefer the flip phone to the bar phone, just for portability. The v551 has had no problems for me, connected it to the pc via bluetooth and added a few wallpapers and whatnot. The 6230 is also a great phone, I like the fact that it has the memory card inside of it.
