Can somebody please help...I have been backing up movies for a while, using shrink and anydvd and have no problems...now the last two weeks I am having problems with movies skipping,freezing and little squares popping up... does anyone know what the problem could be?
That can usually be traced back to a burn speed that is too fast and/or poor media. If you aren't, try burning at 4x or a good rule of thumb is to burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media. no i have been using the same media...TDK...even thought maybe i got a bad spindle so went and bought a new spindal and still the same problems
Well, I have used TDK in the past with no issues seen, bought at Costco, no less. The problem was that TDK is manufactured in 2 locations and 1 media is very good while the other is not good at all.
damn, I've been having the same problem. Started happening two days ago but only when I play the TDKs in divx player, works fine in old dinosaur dvd player. I have always burned at 16x w/ no problems.
Switch to Verbatim DVDR- 16x and burn at 4x speed and your freeze up and Legos will go away. TDK disc is your problem some people like DVDR+ but get the Verbatim disc !!
windawg and mrsvw9: Are you guys using paper/sticker labels on your discs? On those backups that show those issues: Take note of the areas they show up in-the time. Then play them back using the same dvd-rw drive that burned them from your pc. Make sure they play them ok. Test them out in other drives,the more-the better. Usually it's a stand alone player that shows those issues. Test out some of your older backups that you know played perfect and see how they play now. If those same issues now show up-start looking at your player.The laser lens may need cleaned. Here's the list of usual culprits for those issues: Media quality-crap media = slower burn. Bad batch of media. Too fast burn/too slow burn Paper/sticker labels Burning the outer edge of disc Fragmented HD Dirty laser lens Heat issues Transcoding and burning programs There's a slew of other culprits so finding out what drive/s show those issues will help narrow it down. If narrowed down to 1 stand alone,give a lens cleaning disc a shot,but it's a last resort before replacing that player. Those lens cleaning discs have been known to ruin drives. rbrock:Verbatim 16x media is some great media. 1 drawback. I have to burn it at least 8x to get the best performance with them. If burning with a benq drive,I get more crc errors at the slower 2.4x and 4x burn speeds. I found this out the hard way,so upped my speed on them.Verbatim 16x were designed to burned faster so 8x and 12x should be par for them. So the old rule of thumb of slower the burn,the better the backup is not so in some of these quality 16x writers.
I know about 8x speed it depends on your burnner and players But what I posted is a good way to start if you need to bump up your speed but the disc and the speed is where you should start
