Which in your opinion is better for using on Mp3 players, Mp3 or Ogg Vorbis? That in regard to sound quality, size, compatability etc.? Thanx for any help...
at the same bitrate/filesize vorbis tops mp3. at least to my ears and other listening test participants. ecspecially at low bitrate. what you can do is rip a cd and compare it yourself. for vorbis encoding http://www.rarewares.org/ for mp3 encoding get dbpoweramp use lame alt preset extreme
Cool thanx alot... Was just looking for an audio file type that has CD quality but doesnt take up too much space. By the way, could you tell me what bitrate would cd quality be in regards to Ogg Vorbis? Is it the same as Mp3...around 128?!
Yes 128 kbps (stereo, CBR) is CD quality for Ogg Vorbis. Mp3 doesn't sound as good as ogg vorbis untill about 192 kbps. In my opinion [bold]MusePack[/bold] is by far the best sounding codec. It sounds better than Mp3 and Ogg Vorbis at its standard setting (190 kbps, VBR) than they do at there extreme settings (320 kbps, CBR)! At low-bit rates, bit rates under 128, Ogg-Vorbis would win again. Ced
also try aac, faac is free. nero HE-aac free until the demo time is up. what i like best about it is the implementation of VBR. squeezing every little performance it can get. none yet for vorbis. but i like vorbis better cause its open source.
