i have a mp4 file i put onto my psp, but i guess someone deleted it from my PC, how would i convert the mp4 back to avi with free programs. thanks
SP MPEG-4 or AVC? mp4box/yamb can demux AVC video to a raw .264 strean which you can use AVC2AVI to remux to avi. You can then use AVIMuxGUI to mux the aac audio which you can also demux with mp4box. Why not just leave it as mp4 though?
If windows media player can't play back mp4's, then it can't playback MPEG2, XviD avi's, etc. either. Wmp is a directshow based player, it will playback anything as long as you have the right dshow filters installed. So to get it to playback an XviD avi, you need to install XviD or equiv, it already comes with the avi splitter. For mp4 playback you need a splitter (such as Haali's) and decoders for the audio, video and subtitle streams. ffdshow can decode aac audio, MPEG-4 video and AVC video. So basically all you need is Haali's splitter and a recent build of ffdshow.
Download Xilisoft video Converter http://www.xilisoft.com/video-converter.html It can convert video files including DVD, MOV, RM, AVI, WMV, MPEG1/2/4, 3GP etc;
WinAVI Video Converter can convert mp4 to avi pretty good, but it is a shareware. Anyway, you can get a free trial version to have a try. BTW, you can find the program from http://www.winavi.com
