    Hi all !

Media Player Classic v6.4.8.4 keeps adding black bars above and below the movie during playback. This occurs with XviDs and DivX on my TV or LCD. I don't want these additional black bars. How to get rid of them ?

My test XviD avi file is 720x304 and has no black bars. This is confirmed in VirtualDubMod and VLC.

In MPC, the OSD shows Input & Output sizes of 720x304 however there are black bars in the video frame. And right click > Properties shows the video size at 720x408. So, these black bars must be coming from somewhere as they don't appear to be in the original avi file. In VirtuaDub, WinAmp, VLC etc the image properties state 720x304 and no black bars appear.

In MPC I use the libavec code, VMR9 windowed/overlay. These extra black bars are seen inwindow or fullscreen on my LCD and TV. When viewed from top to bottom a fullscreen image is often black bar, dark grey bar, image, dark grey bar, back bar.

    Here are 2 screenies.

Solved ! The extra black bars are being added by DirectVobSub so that the subtitles can be placed in the black bars (not in the picture itself)

Open DirectVobSub > General Tab > Picture Size - change to original = no more extra black bars in movies with subs.
