How can you tell what type of mpeg file you have? I downloaded some free preview clips and would like to put them on DVD. They're file extension is mpeg. I know that mpeg-2 is DVD compliant. So basically, how do I know if I can burn them straight to a DVD-R or if I need to convert them to play in a standalone player?

The latest version of Gspot will tell you if they're mpeg-2 or not.
If they are, just author them, then burn.

I ran one of the files wiuth GSpot and it said that it is mpeg1. So I'm guessing I will need to convert it to mpeg2? What software should I use?
