I downloaded several mpg segments of a video. I tried to make divx from them to join them but when I open at virtual dub it says : Mpeg import filter: pack synchronization error. When I try to open them at windows media player it starts to search for codec but then it just display "Invalid media type" What can I do? It took me days to download them all. Thank you
MPEG-2.. VirtualDub doesn't support it and Windows doesn't have MPEG-2 codecs by default. You can watch the clip with WinDVD or PowerDVD. And why in the heck you want to make DivXs out of MPEG files, that's simply insane.
Thanks a lot. I was about to delete all those videos when i saw your message windvd worked just fine. I know what you mean about divx. I already made a divx file from mpg and the quality is horrible. Now, how do I make the file fix into a cd without losing quality? and other thing, is it possible to turn the divx file back to the original mpg?. Thanks again
Everytime you make conversions between lossy formats (video formats that lose quality/details in order to make the file smaller -- DivX, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, etc), the quality drops. So if you have DivX and you want to change it back to MPEG-2, the quality will be worse than in the DivX you've made from MPEG-2 originally. This can be demonstrated easily -- take DivX file with specific bitrate (like 1000kbps), encode it again to DivX with 1000kbps bitrate, take the result file and encode that again to DivX with 100kbps, etcetc.. Finally you have jerky messy thing with some colors moving in it and nothing that can be recognized -- each encoding drops the quality. But if you have MPEG-2 files, normally (if downloaded from the Net) those are SVCDs and can be burned on 80min blank CD as SVCD and they should work with modern stand-alone DVD players perfectly (stand-alone == the black box you plug in to your TV set). Guide how to burn SVCDs: http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/nero_supervideocd_guide.cfm
Actually the file i'd like to burn into a cdr is 1.0 gb of what it seems to be a mpge 4. The mpge 2 files fix perfectly into a cdr and the svcd seems to be an excellent option but, can I play it in my computer? Thanks again
Ok, thank you very much. So I can start making my svcds without any worry. But what do I do with the 1 giga file (mpge 4)? I still need to put into a 700mb cdr and without losing quality. Is this possible? Thanks in advance.
If it really is MPEG-4 file -- normally DivX, extension .avi, split it with VirtualDub -- guide is in our article section. If the extension is .mpg, it's very likely NOT an MPEG-4 file, but MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 file instead and you can use DV-Tool to split it. Guide for this, once again, in our article section. If the extension is .mp4, then I can't help you
Could you help me, how could I cut mpeg like described above, which program can work with files like that? Virtual Dub and Canopus ProCoder doesn't understand that format!
mope: Reading the guides normally helps, just like it does in this case as well.. http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/
Hi there, anybody can tell me why if I try to insert subtitles in a MPEG with vdub pops out the message pack synchro error? Tks in advance
