I want to convert my music video clips which take up a lot of space my computer to DivX or XviD (btw which one is best for quality and compression). I have been encoding them with TMPGnc as a SVCD video but the problem is they take up about 90mb of space each and I have about 250 clips so I want to convert them to AVI and around 40mb in size. Which program is best for this job & how do I do this? Thanks
Try a program called Mpeg Mediator SE for ease of use and great quality conversions. Here's a how-to I posted a few days ago (last post): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/408021#2485716 .
thanks for the software collarme but i have a few problems: -how do i add a bunch of the clips in the list and make the settings all the same? (because i wanted to add a lot and just leave my pc running over night) -if that is possible how do i set the filename to be the same as the original file's name? and also i have a few HQ clips which is in xvid already, i ran it through 'GSpot Codec Information' and found out that they are encoded by a software called VirtualDubMod. Is this software better than Mediator?
When you've added the first job to the joblist choose another mpeg to be converted and the settings will be the same unless you alter them. Go to Output>Set Output File and name it whatever you like (save it wherever you like too). Both programs use Xvid as a plugin. The big advantage with Mediator is it's ease of use, I'd certainly recommend Mediator when you've that many files to convert- add them to the joblist and let it get on with it. You can change the Xvid settings if you like (Output>Configure Plugin) without altering the output size too much. Also, if you want to convert a DVD with Mediator you just select the VOBset and Mediator will convert them into a seamless avi file.
collarme, i am very confused i -dragged in two mpeg video files -then configured the plugin to how i want -then (this is the confusing part) i choose the locate as my docs then named it. But what about the second file i dragged in where and what is the filename goin to be. -i pressed start and it converted the first clip i added but not the second one
Add one mpeg, configure your plugins, choose the output file and add to the joblist. Add another mpeg and assuming you don't need to change any plugin setting just choose the output file and add to the joblist. When you've done this a few times, press Start Conversion. Each mpeg needs it's own entry on the joblist.
