    hi

I am using Sony Vegas 6a to encode mpeg files(please tell me if other software is better), i have got MPEG files which i need to convert into files which are smaller but still can be played in full screen at a good quality. Each movie is about 10 mins long and i need to keep them to about 20mb each.
Any ideas??? and how do i do it??

    many thanks
    The Monkey

First off, Vegas uses the MainConcept encoder, which is one of the best for MPEG-2 (and from what I understand also for MPEG-1). We really need some additional information to be able to help.

    1. Do you need a specific video format (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, something else)?

    2. Do you need a specific audio format (ie MPEG, AC-3, something else)?

    3. Do you need a specific resolution?

    Get virtualdubmod.
    Open the mpg.
Select video, compression, and try using DivX, Xvid, or whatever you prefer.
    Select file, save avi.
It takes a few minutes, but you have a finished avi, of much smaller size than the original mpg.
