Hi, Could someone tell me if it's possible to burn an MPEG2 movie from my hard drive onto a VCD? I can select 'record' from the task menu and then I can pick the movie I want but that's it. It won't do anything else other than tell me to 'select source' when I try to record. Thanks Nath
First of all, which program are you using? Second, yes it is possible, but you will either have to make an SVCD or convert the MPEG-2 video to an MPEG-1 file. Path #1: SVCD I would recommend VCDEasy to burn either an MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 file. Just open VCDEasy, select SVCD as the type of disc, add your file, and click the button! Path #2: Convert to MPEG-1 for VCD If your player supports SVCD playback then I would not recommend this option, as SVCD offers much better quality. If it doesn't, either try the S/VCD header trick ( http://www.vcdeasy.org/modules.php?name=_Guides&id=VcdTrick ) or convert the file to MPEG-1 for VideoCD using TMPGEnc. Burn this new MPEG-1 file (careful, the extension will be the same after conversion) using VCDEasy with the VCD2.0 option selected. Good luck, and be sure to post if you need a more detailed explanation.
I am using DVD Copy Plus from Studio 321. I have several files that I've d/loaded using WinMX. I've never heard of VCDEasy, do you know if I can buy it online? I guess I'm really looking for a step-by-step walkthru as I'm not exactly and expert pc user. Thanks for your help Nath
First of all, piracy is strictly forbidden on AfterDawn, so I'm assuming that any files you are downloading are for personal backup only (you own the movies). VCDEasy is shareware--available on the AD Download section pages, found at http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/vcdeasy.cfm As for a tutorial, if your movie really is in MPEG-2 (VCDEasy should tell you if it is or not) check out the guide at http://www.vcdeasy.org/modules.php?name=_Guides&id=FirstVCD Under "The VideoCD authoring" in step 1, choose SVCD instead of VCD as the disc type. This will change some options, but the disc will still burn fine. Good luck with it!
