mpeg1 or mpeg2...??

    I have this mpeg file that I downloaded from internet.
    How can I find out if it's an mpeg1 or mpeg2 ..... ???
    I'm using mac, so I tryed ctrl+click on the file and then "Get Info" but then it still just tells me kind:mpeg movie...

    Try running it through your player and finding the info. I'm not a MAc user but I'm sure there is a utility available for this. Chances are that if you downloaded it, it was compressed with MPEG 1.

    If its from the web it is mpg1, if it is dvd its mpg2.

    Mpeg 2 also has a file extention of .m2v

    If your file is .mpg then it is definitely not .m2v.
