   I've some mpg file that i would like to compress to avi to win some space on my hard disk. Do you know a soft that could do it easily?

   You won't gain much by converting the mpeg videos to AVIs unless you set the compressor to a 'lossy' setting. But by doing that you will lose quality. If you don't mind that, then use divx - there is a guide in the articles section.
