is it possible to have multiple burners in one pc, where you insert your original dvd into one and it writes to all the others at the same time the same data? I am sure it is possible but what software would be needed (eg can it be done with the standard stuff such as nero) and would a more powerful pc be needed? If so then what sort of system requirements am I looking at? I have in mind maybe 5 to 8 drives in the one system.
First of all. 'on-the-fly' recording is not recommended .. you may just end up with a bunch of coasters if your source drive has any problems reading yhe source disc .. Secondly, if the source disc is more than 4.35GB, you will need to use DL discs (and writers), since video compression cannot be done 'on-the-fly' (maybe creating very very expensive coasters) You would need a CPU with hyperthreading, I suppose .. but even then, running multiple writers is gonna be really rough on that poor little old processer (heat wise at least) I'd recommend buying a DVD duplicator if you really find it necessary to do multiple discs at the same time This one will handle 1-7 rarget drives ... http://www.esystor.com/shop/IPS003.asp?ProCd=EE06240514&LClssCd=066&LClssNm=DVD%20Duplicators&MClssCd=030&MClssNm=7%20Target%20DVD%20Duplicators
Well it dosent need to be done on the fly but i really didnt want to buy anything like that, i wanted to make it myself because i can get hold of a lot of dvd drives cheaply.
you can buy the tower for the duplicator and the mini computer system that runs it and build it and fit the drive your self!!!
for my backups, i use my dvd-rom drive to read the original disc and have a blank dvd in my dvd rw drive. that way i can go into dvd shrink, select the source, hit backup, and it will encode and send the iso file to nero, which burns it. that way its one-click, and its not on the fly. highly recommend this if you can.
@pro noob i have been trying to do what you are asking because i had a few spare dvdrws. copying on the fly is risky because of the amount of data been transfered but you can do multiple copies from the hdd with success. my specs:intel pentium 4 3.06 ghz gigabyte board85655fx 2 gig (4x512ddr 400mhz all matched) 1x 200gb sata hdd 1x ide dvd rom 3xide dvd rw 1x sata dvd rw in nero when you activate burn just check the use multiple copies option choose which drives to use and then click ok i have experimented with 16x +r verbs but kept speed to 8x a single 8 speed burn normally takes me about 6mins but will go up to 20 mins to do 4. i do also turn off all other resources so nearly all the ram is free. hope this helps
