multiple routers on one network.....will this work

    I have 3 buildings on my property. Right now the building in the center has a router and two access points facing each building giving each building a wireless signal. I was thinking about replacing the access points by running cables to each building and installing a router in place of each access point. This way each building has its own router and all would hopefully have strong signals. Is there a better way to do this? Can I even connect two routers to the back of another router like I'm doing with the access points right now?

    Cabling each router together is a great idea, it's what i do (see my signature for the 3node setup). One of the benefits is that it's also a good way of extending the wireless signal. I use this setup as i prefer wired over wireless and everything is on one large network, plus i still have wireless for any machines/devices that need it.

    how far apart are other 2 buildings from the center building? i'm running a wireless router on 2nd floor from main wired router in basement were my cable modem is.

    One building is approx 400 ft and the other is 240 ft.

    What do you mean by "see my signature for the 3node setup."

    I mean there are 2 different router setups in my signature. The 3node ie 3 router setup is where i have 3 routers connected by ethernet (as i'm on the one floor here); the other setup is my folks' house, 2 routers connected by wireless, one upstairs and one downstairs.

    Is there any certain way I have to configure the 2nd and 3rd routers since both will be connected to the back of the first router?

    Also after I run the 2nd and 3rd routers to their buildings will I be able to connect other pcs directly to the back of those routers if I didn't want to use a wireless connection?

    just connect them to the lan ports of the 1st router. other pc's can be wired or wireless to those routers.

    Once I connect them they'll be ready to go. I wont have to go in and configure a lot of settings in each router?

    Sorry as you can tell I'm new to this. The routers will be connected by cat5 cable. I will end up connecting laptops and perhaps a ps3 to the 2nd and 3rd routers through wireless.

    I guess my question is when you say wireless do mean connecting the 2nd and 3rd routers wirelessly to the first or are you talking about connecting other devices to the 2nd and 3rd routers through wireless.

    ethernet cables to the wired devices & wireless adapters for the devices hooking up wireless if not builtin already. security will have to be setup on the wireless routers so that other people can't access them.

    Everything already has adapters or built in ones and no need for security as we're out in the middle of nowhere. There's no other settings I would need to change?

    why dont you just bridge the routers using all wireless routers

    less wires, not as complicated
