Hello, I have been having some trouble trying to get a few different short movies I've made into VOBs onto one compilation in Nero. Everytime, I do this, Nero give me some sort of warning and the disc inevitably ends up a coaster. Am I only supposed to have 1 IFO file for all the VOBs? or should each Movie(VOB) have its own? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Hi Isher, I had a couple of short clips so I opened them up with Win explorer, wrote down what they had for files then compiled them with Nero Recode2. Clip 1: VIDEO_TS VIDEO_TS VIDEO_TS.BUP VTS_01_0 VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_1 Clip 2: VIDEO_TS VIDEO_TS VIDEO_TS.BUP VTS_01_0 VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_1 I'm not sure why there are two VIDEO_TS files in each, but when combined by Recode it looks like this: VIDEO_TS VIDEO_TS.BUP VTS_01_0 VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_1 VTS_02_0 VTS_02_0.BUP VTS_02_1 As this shows, each Video Title Set (VTS) has its own IFO and BUP file. VTS_02_0 = IFO for VTS #2 VTS_02_0.BUP = BackUP for this IFO. VTS_02_1 = where the Audio/Video data is. If you look at how Recode combined them you can see that the two original title sets (both were VTS_01_X) were re-named by the program so that the second clip I added had its Title Set changed to VTS_02_X and has a corresponding IFO associated with it. Now if I were combining short movies or clips together I wouldn't try and do all kinds of structure arranging. I would just add each movie's VIDEO_TS folder to a compilation in Shrink, Recode or some other compiling program and let it do all the work. Its a lot faster that way, IMHO. Cheers, Frank
BTW you can have a bunch of Video Title Sets, ie VTS_99_X as well as a few titles ie VTS_XX_9 Thats what the DVD Specification allows.
Thanks for the info! I didn't realize I needed Recode. I just tried it and for some reason Recode will not let me add more than one movie file! When I click on Import DVD, it automatically loses the previous movie. What am I doing wrong? Cheers! Isher
When you open Recode, select "Remake a DVD". The "My Own DVD Compilation" window opens. On the upper left of the screen, make sure DVD-Video Files is selected. Select "Import Titles" on the right side of the window. The title browser opens. use this to find the titles. Once you have a title in the browser window, just highlight the selected title and click "Add Titles". Repeat this until you get as many titles as you like. When you are done adding titles, click Finish. Thats how I do it. BTW Recode may analyze a title after you add it and once you get your compilation completed Recode will analyze the whole thing.
fasfrank, Thanks for your help with this! It now works in my DVD drive in my computer, however I am having trouble getting it to work in my friend's PS2. When I put it in, it gives me a "TV system doesn't match" error message and will not play the DVD. She has a Region 1 PS2 and I was under the impression that anything I burn with Nero will turn out Region 0..Am I wrong on this? Do I have to do anything with Region codes at all when I burn with Recode? Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
Hi Isher, A PS2 is an expensive, rather fussy DVD player. I always recommend a cheap DVD player instead of the PS2, save it for games. Generally during the rip process the files are made region free. Shrink, DVD43 for example do this as well as most others. Recode won't make your disc region free or set any specific region. You should have Nero's tool kit with your Nero 6. Open it to check your disc. Use the info tool. Select the disc tab and you should be able to see the region setting on your disc as well as the video format. You can also check region info with DVD Decrypter, Infopro and others. This sounds more like a PAL vs NTSC problem than a region issue, just make sure whatever you play your disc on is compatible with the region setting and video format. If it is a region issue, try running the disc through DVD Shrink to make it region free, burning a new disc with the region free files. You may want to try DVD43 it is a great little program that sits in the background decrypting and making the files region free. I don't know if it would help in this specific instance though. Just be aware of the region and video formats of files you are working with and what you eventually want to play them in. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]motorcycle racer computer newbie Sony VAIO Suzuki GSXR1000 [/small]
Thanks, so the main thing I'm wondering is: how do I set the Format (NTSC or PAL) when I burn in Recode? Do I set it when I create the VOBs with IFOedit? I need to use Recode in order to create the compilation I need. Thanks!
My Pioneer DVD player lets me play either format on my TV. (PAL or NTSC to NTSC) http://www.zonefreedvd.com/codefreedvd/dv563a.html Read this thread to understand what you are getting into: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/41234 Do a search for PAL to NTSC and make sure you understand what these terms mean by looking them up in the glossary. Doing the conversion means converting your DVD to .avi files, reencoding to NTSC with an encoder like TMPGEnc then reauthoring. You sure can't just "set" something to NTSC and do the conversion. This is why I said previously to be aware of region and format issues of any project you are starting, something that starts out as just a simple compilation project that should just take a few minutes turns into a major multi step project. The best thing to do now is to start from the beginning and redo the entire project. Please tell me the source and file extension of your original clips. Lets go from there. BTW we need to know for sure the video format we are dealing with before going any further. Use the Nero tool I mentioned before if you are not positve about the format.
Thanks for getting back to me! I checked the format of one of the films in my compilation in Recode and of course, it turned out to be in PAL, which is obviously why it did not play in either the PS2 the other standalone. For some reason, when I demuxed the AVI file in TMPGEc, the output was set to PAL, not NTSC. I'm pretty sure that this is where the problem was. I'll let you know if I still have trouble playing it. Thanks!
Thats good news actually, converting from there with TMPGEnc will be easier than trying to reconvert it from DVD to avi. BTW I found this advanced tutorial for TMPGEnc, Check it out: http://www.dvdhelp.us/index.html?html/tuttmpgencavi2vcd.html~mainFrame Very informative! _X_X_X_X_X_[small]motorcycle racer computer newbie Sony VAIO Suzuki GSXR1000 [/small]
