    Hi all,
I'm an accomplished pc builder and am looking at building a dual processor system purely for ripping and encoding etc. How well do appliacations like tmpeg, virtual dub and dvd2avi work under dual processor systems. Obviously the kernel for the OS will have to be SMP capable so i would use Win 2k. This is fundamental for smp systems but i also know that some applications do not take advantage of multiple processors and in some cases perform even worse than uni processors. So if anyone has got any information i would be gratful.

    regards

At least TMPGEnc Plus supports multiprocessor environments very well, it has been designed that in mind.

I've used several apps under smp+Win2K (2x1Ghz PIII with SuperMicro P6DGE):

    tmpgenc - uses both CPUs
    dvd2avi - uses single CPU
    CCE - uses both CPUs
VirtualDub - ... can't remember and I'm very far away from that system right now.

    Rgds,
    jnihil.
