Hi.... This is my first time on this forum. Is there a major difference between Music CD-R's and Regular Data CD-R's?? I just started burning all sorts of mpegs and jpegs onto Cd's from my computer. I have been using Maxell Music CD-R's. Are Data CD's different?? Thanks, Alan
Hi Elecctric and welcome. Personally I use whatever type of CDr will play in my Car. I believe from posts a while back that Music CDrs have a more dense backing. I usually buy my blanks from computer fairs as they are the cheapest source I have found. Hope this helps? Thargor
To my knowledge, the diff between "music" and regular (aka "data") cd-r discs is that music discs are slightly more expensive because the RIAA gets a cut. The only technical difference is that "music" or "audio" cd-r discs have a flag that allows them to be used in dedicated standalone cd-authoring machines.
I read one time that the Music CD's are for use on a home recorder but will work on a computer as well, where data cd's are strictly for computer use.
To my knowledge, there is no technical difference between music and data cd-r's, except that music cd-r's have a flag which allows them to be used on standalone burners. Computers will play either, and most regular cd-players can play cd-r's as well. I think that an older cd player that can't read cd-r's won't be able to read them regardless of whether they're "music" or "data" cd-r's.
