Ok Everyone, my new MP3 Player has arrived and it's time to get down to getting some music on it! My question is actually a two parter.......

#1- I have Napster from which i've downloaded 12 songs onto a Rio Forge I was given free, but want to re-evaluate the different music download services to make sure Napster is the best one for me. I like the interface but am a little disappointed I can't find songs by metalica, tool, or sether! Are these bands songs not to be found anywhere or are they just not on Napster? What music download services do you use/reccomend?

#2- I also have about 50 CD's from which i'd like to convert my fave songs into an MP3 format. My recently purchased Dell PC has a few programs (Musicmatch, Sonic, Express Burn, and Express Rip) which may or may not do this for me. I just havn't had time to check yet. I also downloaded a free program (Switch) which I was told would do it. Will one of these programs work for me or is there another I should be looking at?

I appriciate any help offered! Thanks in advance!

and in regards to question #2, i did download EAC & LAME but have had problems as stated in http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/199381

any help with this would be appriciated. I know these are a couple of popular & seemingly highly regarded programs and would like to take advantage of them, but have to be able to get them to work to do so!!

    1) For legal music downloads you could also check out iTunes, Yahoo music and i'm sure there are plenty of others. Do a search on either Google or Yahoo.

For illegal music downloads enter the world of P2P programs. But use these services at your own risk. I'm sure you are aware of all the goings on with the RIAA and the MPAA. Check out the file sharing forums here http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/18.

    2) EAC isn't really that hard to set up. It may look confusing but if you follow the simple guide carefully you won't have any trouble.

#1 question, do you want to pay or download for free. If it's free your looking for LIMEWIRE is great, Found every song I've ever looked for.

#2 Presently I use audiocatalyst been using this one for about 5 years now to rip cd to mp3(Lame). Using Nero to convert mp3's to wave and burn to play on standard cd players.

    Good Luck

audiocatalyst and others like cdex are decent, but nothing compares to EAC. its hands down the best ripper

Even though its Mp3 encoder is no longer free I still feel dBpowerAMP (dMC) is a great CD ripper/Audio-convertor. Its the most flexible and supprots media tags for all of its audio formats. Anyway there are a couple of ways around the Mp3 encoding fee. You could use an older version (v10.1 is recommended) or use the provided LAME-CLI (for free).

or you could just use it to rip to wav, then use EAC with the LAME DLL to encode them to mp3s...lol
