Mx pro to projector problem

hi there, new to the forum and new to android boxes.
I recently purchased an mx pro android box, connected to my tv, works great with no issues. I decided to connect it to my projector to get the full cinema effect but for some reason I can only see the top part of the display eg in kodi cannot see the menu bar with system, video etc. I have gone into settings and adjusted the display settings but to no avail.
I have a freeview box connected to the projector via Hdmi which works fine but when I connect the mx pro the above problem occurs.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be?
