OK, here's what happened. I tried to hack the firmware to make it an 811s, according to the computer everything went smooth. The drive doesn't even spin a disc now and I got a flashing red LED. Then I tried to set it back to a 411s and again, the computer says everything went smooth. Now it's an amber LED flashing. Still can't get it to spin a disc. Everyone else appears to have good results with this hack and nobody reports of a bad one. I posted at club.cdfreaks but so far nobody has replied.
