Hey all. I made this thread with the purpose to see what people think about my idea of a great PC. I have a list of parts that compose my Dream PC and a few extras as well to complete it. I search hard and long, read a lot of reviews opinions and manuals, downloaded pictures and made sure of compatibility of all the selected parts. Hope you like, let me know what you fellas think. 1. Case - Antec PlusView 1000AMG – I picked this case for the space, and man does it have space. I loved the cool features like snap-on fan clamps, removable drive cages, drive rails, and enough fan locations to keep this baby cool while looking cool. 2. MoBo - ASUS A8N-SLI Premium – This MoBo has it all, SLI, 8.1 audio, 10 USB connections, Dual Channel Memory, PCI-E, SATA, built-in firewall, Cool and quiet tech and more. I have seem many people with the Deluxe version and since this one has a few details that better it form the Deluxe then it was the best choice. 3. CPU - AMD Athlon 64 FX57 – Not the best one out there but almost. For the uses I want this baby is the best. At 2.8 GHz and with AMD HyperTransport Technology, Double Data Rate Memory, Cool'n'Quiet Technology makes this CPU a perfect match for my MoBo of choice. 4. Cooling System - GIGABYTE 3D Galaxy Liquid Cooling System – Apart from the nice blue color this system works pretty good with this CPU and it has a pretty easy way of refilling and functioning. 5. Memory - CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) TWINX2048-3200PRO – This set is a good choice for my MoBo and its one of the best from Corsair. Corsair was one of the names I’ve seen most around. 6. Main Hard Drive - Western Digital Raptor 74GB Serial ATA150 - 2 of these monsters on Raid 0 for faster start-ups and access (hopefully). 7. Storage Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar 320GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 – 2 of these in Raid JBOD for an awesome 640 GBs for everything. Sweeeeeeet. SecureConnect, FlexPower, Data Lifeguard 8. Back-up Hard Drive - Western Digital Dual-option Media Center 320GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache USB 2.0 IEEE 1394a – Perfect for backing up the most important stuff like music, saved files and a nice image of the OS drive. Plus a media center for all types of memory and flash cards. 9. DVD-RW - Plextor PX716Adrive – SATA DVD-rom with great speed and the Plextor name to back it up. Dual Layer, Intelligent Tilt and AUTOSTRATEGY make this DVD-rom a great addition. I chose SATA for the cables. Have not heard much difference between SATA and IDE connections so I went with space. 10. Video Card – ASUS Geforce 7800GT 2DHTV 256M GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 – Need I say More? SLI for my MoBo, PCI-E, 256MB GDDR3, NVIDIA Ultrashadow II and more. 11. Sound Card - Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro – This is the latest from Creative, I makes whats already good better. X-Fi 24-bit Crystalizer, X-Fi CMSS- 3D (Creative Multi-Speaker Surround), 3DMIDI, and EAX. 12. PSU – Cooler Master Real Power 550W SLI – Perfect for this MoBo. It’s designed with SLI in mind and it has plenty of power. PCI-E compliant, Super silent operation, Human Computer interface. 13. Input Device - Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser – I fell in love with this board since day one. It’s stylish, it has Bluetooth tech, a separate MediaPad that can be used as a remote (I love remotes), rechargeable mouse with the new Laser tech for 20x the tracking power and more. 14. Monitor - NEC Display Solutions LCD2180UX-BK Black 21.3 20ms LCD – Great looking monitor, Ultra-thin-frame design creates more space, Crystal-clear 1600 x 1200 native resolution, Up/down height-adjustable stand with tilt, swivel and pivot capability, NaViSet interactive display settings control, GammaComp produces smooth color tones, TileMatrix allows for video walls, CableComp ensures sharp image reproduction, Ambix+ technology provides three video inputs. 15. Speakers - Logitech Z-5500 Digital – When it comes to speakers Logitech has yet to disappoint me. These are top of the line for Logitech. THX Certified, 5.1 Configuration, Dolby Digital & DTS Hardware Decoding, 500 Watts, Digital SoundTouch Control Center. 16. Headset - BLUETAKE i-PHONO BT420EX Bluetooth Hi-Fi Sports – I figured a Bluetooth headset would be great to avoid the cable tangling and being about to walk away from the PC and still talk on it. It’s a nice headset that I can also use on any music device like an iPod or a CD player with it’s Bluetooth dongle. 17. Webcam - QuickCam Orbit MP – This neat little cam has a height adjustable base, Motorized Pan and Tilt, Microphone, Digital Zoom, Intelligent Face-Tracking, Logitech Video Effects, Logitech RightLight Technology, Logitech RightSound Technology, True 1.3 Megapixel Sensor. Nice to have a cam that can move without doing it manually. 18. UPS - TRIPP LITE SMART500RT1U 500 VA 300 Watts 7 Outlets UPS – I wanted a good battery back-up that I didn’t just have lying around for me to kick or look ugly. This one is nice and flat, perfect for placing under the monitor or attaching it to the desk or wall. 7 outlets, Simultaneous communications via SNMPWEBCARD slot, USB and DB9 serial ports, PowerAlert UPS monitoring software, $250,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance, Built-in voltage regulation corrects brownouts to 90V. Well that’s it, kinda. This list is what I would like to get to build what I consider a great machine. What do you fellas think. Be honest, say what you think and don’t worry about insulting cause it wont bug me a bit. I admit I am no expert and one of my fav phrases is “I learn something new everyday”. Thanx for reading and any input given. BTW if all works well this could be under my X-mas tree this years.
BTW, if anyone wants more details on the parts on my list, including pics, ask me and email me at charlesboricua on yahoo.
Hey, it sounds awesome. Sounds like you'll be re-editing the Titanic & Troy while shooting your way through Unreal Tournament . I'm only a Newbie but it would seem that you are very tech savvy and have done your research well. I was wondering though that for the kind of power that you seem to need, have you considered a dual core processor. I know that this has implications for your Mobo. You have probably already thought of this or don't actually need it but I thought I'd throw it out to you. May the force be with you.
im getting a new pc over the next few months here are the specs for mine pentium 4 3.2ghz or 3.6 if the price drop 512Mbs ram considering 1GB pioneer dvdrw 16x laser mouse ordinary case default soundcard 200GB HDD normal keyboard cheap second hand moniter floppy drive 6usb ports webcam i also hear that the athalon processors burnout.
what graphics card will you get, there? and a cheapie monitor will do you no good if you want to do any gaming. and what do you mean, "athlon (note: not "athalon", lol) processor burnout"? lol, they're just as trustworthy as anything intel makes.
