i have a hp cd writer cd16f and a sony dvd rw dru-700a. I dont know if your are going to update your sheep 2 list but both of my drives past the test and are sheep 2. my question is what does this mean. what does a sheep 2 burner do and what is sheep 2 mean. thank u
The sheeps refer to the EFM capability of a drive. ( the name Sheep more less comes from the original days of CloneCD) Correct EFM-Encoding 2 sheep = Drive writes regular bit patterns correctly. 1 sheep = Drive writes regular bit patterns almost correctly. It is best to have a 2 sheep burner, it can read and write in RAW mode bit for bit, WHICH, is extremely usefull when trying to make back-ups of copyprotected CD, DVD media. U welcome, The Weycraze
Does this mean that if i have a sheep 2 i can make a 1:1 copy of say halo without emulation? also what does regular bit patterns mean or do. thank you
It means you can make pretty much a perfect 1:1 image. If you've noticed on a cdr there's a ring in the middle? That's an ATIP file, most protections will check for this file. That's how it knows your 1:1 perfect copy isn't the damn original. You require emulation so this ATIP file isn't read. It is known that some DVD-rom drives will not read this ATIP file. As for bit patterns, google yourself on the mechanics of optical drives, it doesn't really matter, what matters is, is this: You'll have a much better chance burning with a two sheep than with a 1 sheep. Halo last time I checked was protected by safedisc 3xx, and yes I think you will need emulation. Check out Daemon Tools.
ok cool either way emulation is needed because you cant just copy from the game to a cd. i think i understand now thanks.
