I tested my internet connection online using speedtest.net and I got 1.02Mb/s download and .29Mb/s upload, is that good?

Depends on what ISP you have. This is bad for cable/fios.

Standard 1 Megabit DSL connection. Overall, considered 'below average', but no worse than that.

Then it depends on what you're signed up to. Usually cable speeds are far higher than that, but speedtest.net isn't always reliable. How fast can you download files over HTTP?

Well the only major downloads I do online are torrents and music from ____... and it usually takes about 4-5 hours to download a 1Gb movie...

This is very bad for road runner; the cheap-o economy road runner is 7mb/0.87MB, my "20mb" service runs at nearly 30mb/3.75MB

Speedtest.net gives erratic results sometimes. Road runner has their own test servers. The tampa bay one is: http://speedtest.tampabay.rr.com/

If it still gives a low result, call up the cable company. My service was slow until they sent out a tech to re-do all the wiring. My speed went from 7.2mb to 29.9mb after they changed out the old wires & reset the modem.
