Is there a way, for some strange reason, that a no-solder modchip can change/affect things that it isn't connected to?

What happened was, I wanted to remove the modchip/upgraded hard drive, but when I take out the modchip (it is ONLY connected by pogo pins, no solder at all) and reconnect an orignal, 8 gig HD, it boots with an 'needs service' screen. Also, if I attempt to run the upgraded HD with the modchip, with the modchip in stealth mode, it gives the same thing. For some reason, my xbox in incapable of running WITHOUT it's moddings, is there anything I can try to fix this? It doesn't seem normal to me for an xbox to not have the ability to run unmodded after it's been modded once, something else must have changed, any ideas?

Your hard drives are probably unlocked. The retail bios won't load an unlocked HD and throw an Error 7. Is that what you're getting?

If the HD does get locked how do you fix it?
