I have a compaq presario 2100 note book with a external benq 16x dl burner running off usb 2.0 through a pcmcia card and i can only get speeds of about 0.48x it takes my about 2 hours to burn a dvd i tried two diferent cards uninstalled and reinstalled all my drivers used 2 diferent usb 2.0 cables 4 diferent types of media i bought the benq because my old burner was doing the same thing and i thought it was a hardware issue but i guess it was not any help on my little mystery will be great thanks
You have done a good job trouble shooting the issue. You pretty much covered all of the bases. What software programs are you using? What drive does the notebook have built-in? Who is the maker of the motherboard? Is the BIOS up-to-date? To get alot of information about your system, use this free program: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
the software i am using is nero and i updated my bios nothing worked maby my notebook is not fast enough this is the info i got from belarc i will let you look at it any help will be great. my burner was burning just as slow before i created the partitions so i dont think that is the issue but maby
can you try the burner on another computer to see if it is problem or not especially if can use the usb pc card so as to isolate the drive & card from laptop
i used the burner on another computer and it worked fine but the other computer did not have a pcmcia slot in it i tried two brand new cards and they both did the same thing so i dont think it is a card issue
these seem to be issues for error messages i am not reseveing any error messages just extreamly slow burn speeds i ran nero cd dvd speed and it looks like a heart moniter of someone who snorted an 8-ball
You need to read it completely. Not just the first page. Please take the time. Thanks. Craig from Ahead Software USA, makers of Nero stated many facts also in that thread.
also i see i have a 5 volt dc input in my pcmcia card do need an adapter and feed my pcmcia card with 5 volts or somthing i will continue reading them forums you sent me to another time there is a lot to read nothing helped so far but i will keep reading also i get an error on cd dvd speed it is permiter value invalid (052602) maby this will help you guys help me trouble shoot my problem thanks
what did manual say about the adapter for the card. does the burner have a power adapter to it or just a usb cable??
the burner has a power cable and a usb cable the pcmcia card had no cable at all just the card with instructions the instructions say nothing about a power cable at all just tells me to incert into slot and window xp will automaticly install drivers and they did device manager is reading enhanced pci to usb controller then under that it says usb root hub not 2.0 though the card came with a driver disk labled usb 2.0 drivers for windows 98/nt i installed them anyways but they made no diference so i uninstalled them an reinstalled the other drivers i think i pulled all the the hair out of my head i refuse to give up untill i solve this problem
does the laptop have usb2 or 1 on it besides the pc card?? have you tried the onboard usb to see how long it takes to burn a disk. check for possible xp driver from manufacturer
the laptop has usb one that is why i bought the pcmcia card it burns just fine in the usb 1.1 slot it is just slow burns at the same speed as i am geting out of my pcmcia card slow
