hi I was wondering if anyone could help me please, I have a nec 1300a and it will not burn or even recognize dvdr- disks.
this drive is a dvdr+\- and is ment to burn/recognize both types of media.
it seem's like it is nero that keeps changing my setting to dvdr+ only

could anyone help me change this setting back to dvdr+\- please

any help will be much appreciated

P.S the version of nero I'm using is 6.0.0.11

    THANX IN ADVANCE!!!

    Joyce,

It twid be da media me thinks.

Mine doesn't like anything other than the top grade DVD-R. IT doesn't even like the high grade DVD-RW no matter what. As far as DVD+R it loves it all. So, that's what I use the +R stuff -

If you find a good answer,PM me with it, please -

I have found that, and don't ask why, that Mr. Puter needs to be "Fresh", just back from a reboot and alot of those error messages go away.

No it doesn't help with the -R media -

    Lots "O" Luck,
    "P"
Remember, PM me if you get an answer -

NEC 1300A => ONLY USE ADVANCED AZO disks !!!

Last week I bought a spindle with "VERBATIM 4X DVD-R" with 50 disks, NEITHER of them did work.

At first i was puzzled by this, because when I used the 5 pack version (also VERBATIM 4X DVD-R, 20 Euro) each disk worker perfectly.

BUT THEN, I noticed the difference between the two versions: The disk sold in the 5 PAck had the extra lable "ADVANCED AZO", the disks on the spindle did not have this.

It turned out that this is THE MAJOR reason why some disks fail in my NEC 1300A drive and some work perfectly. ALL DISK with ADVANCED AZO (regardless which brand) work GREAT.

    What is ADVANCED AZO:
AZO stands for new and unique CD/DVD dye technology, AZO.Advanced AZO is used to produce a recording layer with an improved
power margin and greater sensitivity that ensures stability at faster......

Are the NEC 1300a DVD copiers rubbish or what? I got one and when i copy a music disk or anything on a standerd 700 meg disk it copys great. As soon as i try to copy onto a DVD disk NO CHANCE i keep getting errors like "disk write-protected" or along those lines.

    markc,

Getting a "copyright protected" message has nothing at all with a drive - if you don't use a ripper software program i.e. DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD or SmartRipper to remove the copyright protection there is no drive in the world that comes with the software that would allow you to copy a DVD.

Firmware 1.08 is rubbish ... Flash to 1.09 and you prob's should be over media wise ... run your DVD through DVD DeCrypter then DVD2ONE ... remembering to put them in different folders each time ... Then Burn with wot ever software you have ... Go nice and easy at 2x right ...

    markc,

I have 1.09 flash firmware and I still can only use +R media.

If you want to burn -R it needs to by the AZO dye stuff

Went out today to get some blank CDs and i saw some cheap blank DVDs so i thought sod it worth a try. They have no writing or anything on them at all and i seem to be having a little bit more luck. I have not been given the "illegal media" error i was getting so i wiil try this blank and see what happens.

    Thanks

    Update your firmware at
    http://www.necd.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/215

    Select: ND-1300A firmwareupgrade 1.0A

After the firmware upgrade, my NEC 1300A starting burning even cheap DVD's!
(and my burner is a USB2/1394 external!)

    This should fix your problems!

    Good Luck!

I have an internal NEC 1300A and it worked great for a few months burning Ritek DVD-R and then I got some Memorex DVD+R and backed some dvds. After that when I would use any backup DVD backup software(DVDDecryptor, Nero, Xcopy Xpress) it gets Error Writing about 5 mins into recording phase. I flashed the firmware to 1.09 and I was burning Memorex DVD-R no problem than I tried the Memorex DVD+R again and same problem so I flashed firmware to 1.0A and still not working. Any suggestions would be great

i have a nec 1300a and had been using it internally for two months...worked great!!! just bought an external usb case for it and can't burn a disc, gets hung up and says 'reset occurred'....i flashed the firmware to both 1.09 and 1.0a and neither helped me out, i upgraded to nero 6.3 and still no luck....

Memorex as an example, has posted figures as high as 40% coasters, not what I would call an impressive record -

Let’s get your media straightened out -

    1. Cheap media skips, freezes, fuzzes, pixelats, refuses to be recognized, partially jams and of course, our good old standby, either doesn’t burn or doesn’t play at all :-(

Cheap media is great for text, Data, Spreadsheets, .Jpg and .Gif pictures and is good even for MP3 music BUT for DVD backups - BLAaaaaaT! It SUCKTH in an extremely Big-th way !

    2. A top grade media is needed for DVD reproduction !
Ritek G04's or Verbatim are what we’re looking for OR any media boasting “Advanced AZO Metal Dye”, this indicates a superior dye application, while they are a bit “pricey” they are acceptable.

Prices online from Meritline.com have gotten Ritek G04 to down below a dollar a disc -
Question - If you make coasters out of 3 cheap discs and good copies from 3 Verbatim discs or 3 Ritek G04 discs - which ones then are too expensive ?

Remember, Memorex, Fuji, TDK, Orange Pack and others are great for your MP3 music, picture archives, Spread sheets, Data and your text backups and archives, they just don’t work well for DVD backups.

    Hope this helps,

    Pete

I agree with above. You can't beat Ritek for reliability though it's doubtful if you can classify them as high-grade, but for the price you'd be silly not to use them.
