Some lowdown dirty Ba***rd swipped my phone. I am with Orange in the nederlands, so I called them to block the sim card ( contract for 1 year, and the phone is only 4 months old ) and ask what else they could do. I was under the impression that the phone could be traced. Wait for this!! Orange told me to goto the police to report it ( which I did ) and give them the IMEI number? and the police can send a "text bomb?". The police said that only the provider can trace the phone, and Orange said they cannot trace the phone unless the police ask them to. So back to the police and I was told that they will only do this if a severe crime has been commited!!!!! WTF!!!! I cant work this out, unless what they mean is that big brother has the opertunity to spy on everyone whenever THEY choose to. I really feel I'm getting the runaround from these folks. Can anyone shed any light on this for me, i.e. can the phone be traced is the tracking device imbedded in the software ( can that be flashed or something ) or is it in the hardware and there will always be a chance to find my phone, and also what is the standard procedure for providers / police to do when this happens. Any fire power would be greatly appreciated. Edit: No one can help, no suggestions on protocol. Thanks for nothing. Maybe I'm not in the click round here eh!! May aswell close this thread.
If you still want more info on how this really works, in dutch, then pm me. I can tell you now though most providers will tell you to take it up with your insurance.
yo if i were you i would totally terminate your contract and pay the fee . and never use that provider again
