recently my comuter has been playing up ,the mouse stopped functioning so i replaced it then while in the middle of browsing the internet and downloading a flv file from google videos my screen statrd going blank the mouse wouldn't move and neither would the keyboard so i switched off the computer and when i switched it back on again the screen was black .i switched it off again and removed all wires ie mouse usb keyboard and re-connected them left it for ten minutes and tried switching it back on gain still the screen was blank . so i changed harddrives and it worked but again i was downloading something from google videos and th same thing happened to the newer hd - the screen is blank every time i switch on my computer. both my hard drives work with an external HD case but not in my desktop. i deleted the google video files using the externl hard drive unplugged everything then replugged everything both inside and outside my desktop. now i dont know what to do. any advice would be aprreciated.
IDE or Sata? Did you try replacing the cables and plugging them into a diff port. Could be as simple as a bad cable or a faulty port since you state they work in an external enclosure.
yeah i changed the ports etc... i replaced the hard drive but it wasn't untill i changed my mouse and keyboard that it worked but my other three hd's still get the black screen. so im thinking it's some sort of virus.
Doesn't sound like a virus to me. Wiping/changing the HDD removes virus from the picture as it can only stay on the hard drive. If other hard drives give the same problem then it must be a hardware issue. I'm not really sure what could be causing it. But don't leave anything out. Test your video card in multiple ports and plugs, test your ram (remove each stick and try individually in every slot to see if its a slot(s) or stick(s) of ram thats causing the problem. Or it might be that the motherboard itself is the issue. For testing that I have no clue. This is a problem I haven't dealt with before so I'm not really sure how to go about narrowing it down for you. But testing hardware can't hurt if multiple hard drives give the same issue. Also, did you try those hard drives in a different computer? Perhaps your motherboard is shot or the sata plugs are all bad somehow.
