My SONY DVD RW DRU-800A stopped reading DVD's

    Wussup everybody, look i wonder if someone could help me with this, i'm having problems with my dvd-writer SONY DRU-800A, it reads and writes cd's, but it can't read or write dvd's......i upgraded the firmware but it didn't solve the problem.....i checked the driver with the sony driver check, and this is what come's on the report:

    Could be a faulty drive... Can you try it in another machine and see if it does the same thing, if it does then it is probably faulty but if it works ok in the other machine you might have a software problem.... : )

    I had the same problem a few days ago. Tried everything on saofware part. It is actually hardware/physical got faulty. I hope it is still under warranty. You need to get it replaced.

    yes i thought so, i thought it could be a hardware problem.....

    but recently i noticed that, it can ready some dvd's if i try many times....

    it's there any explanation for that....

    donno why for sure. But logically, the symptom persist more and more. First not burning well ie, movie skips scene, games not recognised on console, then burning failures, more and more burning failure and you realised you wasted so many good discs, then it failed to read the empty/blank discs. Then who knows, explode!!! :)

    I donno, maybe we used it too much, maybe its just the quality that undermined the tear n wear. Simple as that.
