A couple of weeks ago, I was playing some music on my laptop so I disconnected the speakers from my desktop and connected them to my laptop. Once I was done I reconnected them to the desktop and my sound on the desktop just doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure if it happened when I used the speakers or if it just happened at another time. I have windows XP. The speakers are just basic Altec Lansing speakers. Speaker wire is connected at the back of the desktop. Under control panel, sound and audio devices, it says I have no audio device. Under device manager I can't tell if the speakers are installed and if there is a driver. How can I check where the problem is, weather its my speakers, driver, soundcard, etc.? How can I fix it? Thanks.
I actually mentioned that the speaker wire is plugged in so you wouldn't ask me to do that first. The sound is not muted on the taskbar, I dont even have a sound icon on the task bar. When I go to start menu to change the volume it says I dont have a sound device installed. My question is... is there any way for me to check if there is a sound device installed on the computer, I cant really tell from the device manager. I was wondering if there was a program I can use to scan what devices I have installed. And if the speakers somehow got uninstalled how can I reinstall them, I dont know if I have the driver for them.
Your drivers aren't installed. If you don't remember what drivers you need, you can try to scan your computer hardware with Everest, or use Drivermax. Drivermax is the easier option, but remember; you can only download a x-amount of drivers a day or so. Hope this helps.
