Hi, I hope Im posting in the right place. If not I appologize. Computer has been slow for over a year, 30 second lag before iexplorer opens up, web surfing is slow. Get popups and redirects. Got that phony anti-virus software several times. Could successfully remove it in the past but not now. System Restore won't work.

Also, explorer.exe often uses 99% CPU, which cripples computer for a few minutes (or indefinitely) anytime I access a hdd or open a media file or something.

I tried to do the Kaspersky online scan but it is not working at the moment, so I did the other stuff and then ran HiJack This. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi ipnes,

Well, you have some problems. Let’s see what we can do for you – follow the instructions:

Step # 1: Remove Hijackthis Entries

    • Run HijackThis
    • Click on the Scan button

Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\DOCUME~1\Jonathon\LOCALS~1\Temp\csrss.exe

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [USBestCR] C:\Program Files\USIM Editor\iconcs98246515.exe RunFromReg

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

    O16 - DPF: {2AEEAC34-FD74-4142-B891-4B05C0C03C87} - http://akamai.downloadv3.com/binaries/DialHTML/EGCOMSERVICE_1045_pack_XP.cab

O23 - Service: Afa Card Reader Service (AfaService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\afasrv32.exe

Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
    • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
    • When completed, close the application.

Step # 2: Delete Bad Services

Please open Notepad. Ensure that word wrap is turned off. Click on Format and make sure that there is not a tick next to Word Wrap. If there's one, click on Word Wrap to remove it. Copy and paste the following in the code box into Notepad:
    Code:
    @echo off
    sc stop AfaService
    sc delete AfaService
    exit

Click on File > Save As....

In the File Name box, copy and paste in fix.bat
In the Save as type box, select All Files from the drop-down list.

Click Save and save it to your Desktop.

Double click on fix.bat. A Command Prompt window will open and close quickly. That is normal.

Step # 3 Delete Bad Files/Folders with Windows Explorer

Using Windows Explorer, Navigate to and delete the following Files/Folders in (RED) if they still exist…

    C:\DOCUME~1\Jonathon\LOCALS~1\Temp

    C:\Program Files\USIM Editor

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\afasrv32.exe

    Step # 4 Scan with Malwarebytes’ Anti-malware

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- Don't forget this.
    • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

Post The MBAM Log and a fresh HJT Log and let me know about any problems you are still having…
