Hi guys, I have a website, its no done yet, but anyway the website allows people to post their websites and allows other users to rate them -basically I'm trying to create the largest website list available online. I was thinking that I would like to try and make this a profitable website. So first of all I though that maybe I should charge $1 to list each website and maybe I could make a bit of money. Would any of you guys be willing to pay $1 to list your website?(Not a proposition just a question- I want to find out weather a lot of people would want to list their websites) I also thought of advertising but I have been researching that for about 6 months now and I realize its not that easy. Are their people who could set up advertising for you? Can you please tell what you think of the idea and any other advice would really help. Thank You in advance
pay fo links?.. no thanks.. my site is a top rated site simply by having a good name. 15 years too late for this.. the competition is HUGE and there is no point trying to compete (for money) with the likes of them. To make money from the internet you need ads.. google adsense is what most people use otherwise you end up with a few niche adverts from local suppliers who won't pay unless they can see actual returns.. nah.. your plan sucks.. "website list" ?? competing with who?? google and the search engines??? it's not viable, nobody would use it because there is no point at all. I have seen people have these "great" ideas before and always end up with expensive paid hosting and no traffic.. a site has to offer something unique, which means content, not just lists of links. Have a look at the porn sites (they do the "affiliate and friends" technique well) and see how they all link to each other.. each one having it's own unique content and referral system. Even so most of the page hits will come from search engines rather than through their "affiliate" system. Nah mate.. find something else to do.. online directorys with links are obsolete.. it's how things worked in the early 90's before search engines were mature.
unless your site is the number 1 website in the world no one is gonna pay you a dollar to put a link to their site on there.go with the ads.make it a free site with links and provide ads for companies that way you can make a profit from big businesses but still give the average internet user a go.making a website shouldnt be about money it should be about helping the general public or offering them a service at below normal costs.
There are a lot of sites that do this and dont charge, They make there money for advertising, just an idea but what if you charged a dollar or so and offered to pay the top 5 or 10 websites a commision or offer prizes to the top rated sites as well as getting advert deals, maybe your advertising could pay for prizes or commision? or get someone to sposor you and in exchange you advertise for them? Dont give up so easy.... Give them something That they will want to sign up And make shure you do it lagit by the books pay tax register names etc Get an accountant and look into all the legalitys.... Because if you do make it big, you dont want something to come back and bite you in the ass .... This is the most common mistake in business.... Offer an affilate program such as if someone refers a site to you they get 20c out of the dollar..... The world is you oyster and never let anyone tell you your ideas sux..... Its so easy to throw in the towel its not so easy forgeting about it, the main thing i have lernt is to get all your info ect ready to go... Reasearch over and over then when you are happy with what you have and you think you would pay for it.....then ask what others think.......Because they will put you down very quick.... and im not saying any of the comments here have... sorry for my spelling im new to english
