Strange thing keeps happening.... DVDs created in MyDVD will play on the standalone, but DVDs created with Nero, DVDLab, ULead, TMPGenc and others using the same files (mp2 and m2v), same media, and same burner will play on the computer, but not in the standalone. I'm guessing it has something to do with the files getting re-encoded, but I'm hoping someone has some idea why. The DVDs all have the VIDEO_TS file and other necessary items, and the burn processes seem to complete successfully...but it's a mystery. I'm using a Sony DRU510a and shopping around for something other than MyDVD to use (I want to add chapters, create custom menus, etc.) Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Hiya no_nothin, Am I right in saying that the successful DVD was burned using the burning function within MyDVD? And the failed ones were burned using Nero? Have Fun...
Yes, Nero, and the others (TMPGEnc, Ulead DVD Workshop, and DVDlab) are the programs that give me computer friendly disks that refuse to play in my standalone. MyDVD, oddly, gives me disks that will play on both (standalone and computer). It's strange because I've heard such bad things about MyDVD and so I went shopping around for other programs, and sure enough it's the only one that works so far. My process is: Download one, try it all the way through (using the same source file and media for consistency) and then remove it if I don' like it or it doesn't burn. Hmm...
OK, try something for me: In MyDVD, use your existing project, but author it to the Hard Drive INSTEAD of to DVD. Then use that VIDEO_TS folder and burn it using Nero. The check is this: we KNOW that MyDVD is outputting a DVD-Compliant structure (because it works when straight to DVD, therefore the structure is correct and the DVD Drive is working). If burning that DVD-Compliant structure using Nero results in a non-playing disk, you know that the fault is with the burning software. As Nero is the only dedicated burning software you have at the moment, it makes sense to test that. It is simply trying to identify the point at which it fails. Post the results and we will be able to move on. Have Fun...
dude, im not sure, i had similar problems using dvd x copy platinum and the back up that i made of that will work in only 3 of my 6 dvd players. im thinking thats it is someth9ing thats in the encoding process. does anyone know what kind of encoder dvd x copy uses?
signal, You would be better off asking your question in the DVD Xcopy Forum. here is the link: http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/ We wish you luck getting your problem solved. Have Fun...
Good Dr, I follow your diagnostic logic here, (and appreciate your help). The MyDVD written/Nero Burned disk works in the standalone...I suppose that means that problem lies somewhere in the authoring procedure the other programs (Nero Vision, DVDLAB, etc.) follow. I've read elsewhere that MyDVD rencodes the audio file to LPCM (eating up lots of space). Would that make a big difference? Or should MP2 files work as well?
Hiya no_nothing, Possible, it may also be that the media file/s is/are incompatible in some way OR your procedure in using the programs/tools is incomplete. only to the final project size. Yes, they should. If you are interested in learning what the process is (the individual steps and standards that have to be complied with etc. etc.) and how to seriously improve your chances of successfully creating a DVD every time, I can guide you. It is not a quick process, it may seem overly complicated at first, but each step is an important learning experience as well as a vital step towards quality results. We are here to help, after all. Have Fun...
