I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition (up to date) and am trying to find out what a specific process in the task manager is. It's always present and takes up 98-99 CPU usage which seems quite a lot compared to other programs I run. It's only visible in the processes tab, not the application menu. I don't have an English language version of Windows so I can't tell you the exact name of it, but it translates into 'free/unused system process' and that's all it says under process name, it doesn't give a name of an exe file like the other programs running. It also only takes up 28kB of memory. I'm just trying to figure out what it is, I've been having some problems with my computer slowing down during games after an hour or so of playing, and I've been trying to find out if this has anything to do with it or if it's a normal process to have running, although the CPU usage seems high. Thanks for any clues you can give me.
that is the system idle processes. that is probably not the problem. when it says 99% usage that means that is is using 99% of current cpu usage. so it is probably using a total 3 or 4 % total usage.
