I'm getting lots of messages from reliable sources suggesting that a N3 fix is about to be released. I'm finding this very hard to believe. Up until today, I didn't think anything was likely to happen before Christmas. Did anyone else hear anything?

strange thing is nobodys said anything on here about it and there are only negative comments. surely someone has info as its been nearly a month now since it happened, maybe people are afraid to say what they have heard or know as ive heard the forum is looked at by a certain provider. or maybe really nobody has a clue and these rumours are made up by the folk who sold the boxes

Try a google search on nagra3, and see how long they have been trying to hack it, that is why there is no new reports as there is none.

N3 has been going strong now for well over 12 months with not sign of any breakthrough....And I wouldnt hold my breath, as most of the encryption systems have stayed secure and N3 is probably one of the best along with ND$

N3 has brought an end to the satelite hacks as well..

I hope N3 does not come to cable in the UK? Does anyone know of any plans? If it ever was to happen what is the timescale? Do they have to just replace the cards, or do receivers need to be updated in any way?

an update to see if anything is going on as its not likely any time soon this is what the uk lot are going to get below

Cisco Helps V88g8n Media Evolve Network Into a Medianet, a Platform Optimised for Rich-Media Delivery

Cisco today announced that V88g8n Media, a leading entertainment and communications company in the UK, has chosen Cisco to support its Internet Protocol (IP) TV distribution platform and help upgrade its legacy digital TV infrastructure.

V88g8n Media will deploy Cisco® Digital Video Headend technology in all of its regional and central headends to enable growth in standard-definition and advanced high-definition TV (HDTV) services. Deployed across V88g8n Media's national fibre optic network, Cisco IP core and edge network technologies will provide high-speed distribution between the central and regional headends and support delivery to V88g8n Media's high-speed access network. On completion, the new TV platform will be capable of delivering advanced services to more than 12.6 million UK homes.

    Highlights / K*y Facts:

    * V88g8n Media's upgraded TV distribution platform will be extensively based on Cisco technology, including Cisco's IP Next-Generation Network core and edge routing and switching, digital video headend solutions, and system management and monitoring.
    * The project, managed by Cisco, includes installation, full system integration, the priming of third-party elements and support provided by the Cisco Advanced Video Services Group.
    * The simplified infrastructure will help V88g8n Media to reduce operating expenses, support the rollout of new conditional-access security services, and accelerate the introduction of new standard- and high-definition services.

    Quotes:

    * Daniel Hennessy, director of technical architecture at V88g8n Media
"Upgrading our digital TV platform means we can continue bringing innovative new services to our customers. With greater resilience and added capacity, we can guarantee an outstanding viewer experience as we add further HD content to our TV platform. Cisco has the right experience and expertise to deliver a complete solution and help support the rollout of a next generation of entertainment services."

    * Phil Smith, vice president, Cisco UK & Ireland
"Cisco values the relationship with V88g8n Media, which has developed and deepened over the years. Since Cisco introduced the concept of medianets, intelligent networks that are optimised to deliver rich-media content, we have seen service providers like V88g8n Media take the lead in transforming their networks to really differentiate the consumer experience. With the new IP-based TV transmission platform, V88g8n Media customers can look forward to services that will change the way they are entertained."

Cable & Wireless Moves Toward Worldwide IPTV Rollout
Telecom Provider's Deal With Move Networks Covers 38 Countries
Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 9/11/2009 1:45:19 PM EDT

Cable & Wireless' CWI telecommunications unit has signed a deal with Move Networks, a provider of video-streaming and IPTV technologies, to provide the infrastructure for a television service distributed in up to 38 countries.

The partnership will allow each of London-based CWI's business units to offer a multichannel television service transmitted through its customers' existing DSL connections. According to the companies, the deal represents the world's "widest-reaching IPTV partnership," with the potential to serve CWI's more than 7 million customers.

Move Networks, whose investors include Comcast, Microsoft and Cisco Systems, is providing CWI with its rate-adaptive streaming media client along with middleware developed by Inuk Networks, which Move Networks acquired earlier this year.

CWI's services are in trial phase curreN*ly, and the telecom provider is expected to begin commercial deployments as soon as early 2010. Move Networks will manage the worldwide distribution of the IPTV services from its headquarters in American Fork, Utah, and from an office in the U.K.

The telco plans to deliver live TV and other video services in MPEG-4 AVC H.264 format to televisions via IPTV set-top boxes using Broadcom chip sets and to PCs. The service also has network DVR features, such as pause and rewind of live TV and video-on-demand offerings.

Roxanne Austin, who was named CEO of Move Networks in July, said the linear 24/7 television service will comprise about 80 channels. In addition, CWI plans to offer local channels and other content in each of the operating countries.

Also looks like Kirklees, Leeds & Barnsley are first to rollout with NGTV.
    ngtv = next generation tv
ngcas = next generation capture and store
The new box uses mpeg4, and on some other forums the say the linux based system looks similar to dbox/dreambox....

Which will be worse then what Ireland get

As long as there is no N3 hack for satellite available there is no hope for a cable fix.

Is it the sat guys that get cracked first ?
Also I have no doubt a hack will come its not easy to do - but think if a picture is scrambled digitally it can be descrambled - but in the mean time is it back to dummy cards? one sub dishing out 100 copy cards ?

The big money is waiting at the satellite market for a N3 hack.
As long as there is no working N3 hack known for satellite its simply technically not possible to crack N3.

Thanks piopat but it seems this guy has no or very little knowledge of N3 or encryption methods in general so I have heard and read, he's actually just a talk show host about FTA. There are stories of cards being sold in very small circles but I'll believe it when I see it. I do believe it is happening though.
