are the nec drives any good at running disc quality tests. my nec seems to have issues when i run tests on it. It shows more errors than any of my other drives. is this a common problem with nec drives or is this just me.
According to the forum at CD freaks, the NEC, while a fantastic burner, is a horrible scanner. I have the same burner NEC 3550a and my scans are putrid. Even tho the burned copy plays fantastic. I just ordered a BenQ DW1650 as a third drive so that I will be able to do quality scans that are accurate. (I hope). Here is a link for the NEC forum at CD freaks. Lots to read and learn. http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=86 Cheers.
It doesn't seem to have much effect.. I chose the nec deliberately because it isn't the best burner out there..which is exactly what I needed for what I do..Not speed just nice and steady.. CD freaks have the best info on drives..Quikkie did lots of work on the nec..Check out the bottom of the range samsung..now that is an amazing reader, not failed to read anything..even battered old ps1 games. I'll post the model number when I find it..I have one at work
It will be interesting to see how the NEC burns will scan differently in the new BenQ DW 1650 that I just got. I will post a couple of them side by side for comparison.
Yes please do.. I find that stuff fascinating (I need to get a life!!) I can run a few with my 4550 as well.. It's about 4 weeks.. old and compare them with my cd burner just for fun..
Does the 3550 support Bitsetting and if so what SW do I need to do so? I am going to start burning Dual Media and Hope to set DVD+R DL to DVD-Rom Format.
@Scarpad, I think just on +R DL. My NEC 3540 gives better scans then my lite-on 167t. I'm still not shure witch one to use....
Well +R DL is primarily what I'm interested in since the -R DL is much more money and they should be more compatible by their nature of being -R. What SW do I need to set the Booktype?
