I don't know when this occured, but I can't read and DVD's on my NEC 3550A. I updated the firmware to the newest but in My Computer it says under "DVD-RW Drive" Cd-Rom Drive. The only drivers I can update to are CDRom drivers and I can't find any DVD drivers for this drive. Windows support proved no help of course. How do I make my drive be recognized as a dvd-rw drive??
Have you tried burning a DVD with the drive? Go into Device Manager, delete that drive, reboot, and see if Windows finds it again, correctly.
I have... Removed the drive from Device Manager Deleted Upper/LowerFilters from Registry Tryed another DVD Drive, and still wouldnt read Deleted SP2, reinstalled SP1 Changed DVD region to 1. Repaired windows... anything else without formatting? I can also read CD, and burn CD's... I am about to pull my hair out.
i had the same problem myself with a new nec 3550a. i looked around and found this fix on the net. download both the hp sonic dla software v 4.60 and v 4.95. install v 4.60, reboot, install v 4.95 and select the option to delete v 4.60. reboot again and you can format your dvd's & write to them like a hard drive by clicking & dragging. it worked like a charm for me. good luck! http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/22226.html
