I pop in a DVD and it reads it fine. I do whatever I needed to do with it and I pop it out. About 20 minutes later I put that same exact disc back in and it recognized a disc just not the files on the disc. I find this very weird since it just read it like 20 minutes before. Here's a shot of what it looks like now: http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/4812/untitled1copy0qz.jpg What's up? Did the drive just die? Or something else? I tried a restart to no avail too.
I had something similar a while ago..don't know if it's related in any way to your problem or not..The only solution I found was doing a system restore to an earlier condition of windows.. It seems to be something to do with local caching of some kind, I can't explain it, but it may have been some sort of IDE attacking virus stopping the screen refreshing with the contents of the drive..Is it permanant now, or does it come and go?? Another possible that can't be overlooked is the drive controller chip on the mobo is messing about, try putting the drive on another cable and see if it makes any difference..what else..test the drive in another computer if possible.. I have had a NEC 3550 since the first week of release and I must have burned thousands of disks with it..very reliable, but you could be right and yours is on the way out..Test every possibility first before condemning it.. I had a heap of old drives I thought were dead, It was the drive control chip on the mobo..
i think it may be a problem with your file system for your drive- since i dont think it should be RAW
