    Hello,
Just got a nd-1300a and flashed it to 1.07.
    Using a P4 1.5ghz emachines 4150, win xp home.
Have set the nd-1300a as the master on the secondary ide channel.
Bios recognizes it correctly as dvd-rw drive,
in my computer it shows as D: NEC dvd-rw drive with 1.07,
dvd info sees it as same.

BUT - cannot read ANY cd-roms, or blank Ritek G04 4x dvd's (which are on the compatibility list).
Nero 6.0 says "error - medium not present (023A00).
DVDinfo also says media not present.

    Can anyone help?

I dont understand how bios & computer can see the drive, but it cant read any dvds or cdroms?!?!?

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ide driver that comes with windows xp. And tried installing aspi 4.70 fresh. Neither helped.

I verified dma mode is set...after searching these & other boards forums, I can't think of any other changes to make...looking for any & all suggestions!

    Thanks much,
    Aaron Benner

Are you trying to use +R discs? If so it will not read them! Use -R Discs

    Hello,
I am trying to use dvd-r...but, neither those or any cd-roms, blank or purchased, OR any purchased dvd disks can be recognized.

It seems like the drive just can't communicate with the computer, although the drive shows up in my computer, in nero, and in dvdinfo. But always says 'no medium in drive'.

I have updated the aspi drivers, uninstalled and let win xp re-find the drive, verified the bios sees the drive too.
The drive is set up as the master on the secondary ide channel.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

At this point it seems more hardware related than media-related, since it doesnt recognize ANY disk at all!

    Tearing my hair out,
    Aaron

I'm with you as I have a similar problem in that I can write to it, but it won't read anything. This has only just happened as for the last month it has been fully functional.

Update on my problem. A reboot sorted the problem.

LOLOLOLOLOL YOUR TOTALLY SCREWED DUDE! i also have the same model number same drive etc whatever you call it well looks like you bought the oem open everything up and read what firmware it has on the burner you have to open it up and u can see on top of the drive theres labels indicating wheres it made etc check the firmware there and see if its 1.06 if its 1.06 ur screwed because 1.06 dont need to upgrade firmware to 1.07 it will perminantly ruin ur burner the firmware was for only 1.01 users like mine most likely if you bought urs oem its 1.06 and is now ruined forever and warranty is void (you void it when you try to upgrade firmware) if it says 1.1 u still got a chance BTW... NEVER BUY E-MACHINES YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET

@baggins : This drive is dual format so +r works fine, although that is besides the point.
@jk323 : Can't the drive be flashed backwards to 1.06 firmware? or is this guy really outta luck?

    Hello,
Thanks for the info on my problem. The drive came as 1.05 firmware, so I dont think anything was "TOTALLY SCREWED" by flashing to 1.07. The behavior (always says no medium in drive) was the same before and after the flash.

In summary, it came as 1.05 and was flashed to 1.07.

Does anyone else have any suggestions for help?

This isnt always possible, but can you try the burner in some1 else pc, just to determine if its your system or the burner. I have the same drive and flashed from 1.05 to 1.06 and its been great, a cheap reliable drive!!(no coasters yet, woo). Not sure what else to suggest, but if you can id try it in a nother machie first.
    Hope it helps.

I recently purchased an NEC ND-1300A drive and had the same problem when using dvd xcopy. I got it to work by using TDK 2X DVD-R discs.
Everything works fine now. As info.....

i have been using many kinds of media and it always seen to be burning at 2.4x or 2x and not 4x like it is advertised. I have tried 4x +/- and it does not make a difference. I think I have the bulk drive with the original firmware. How would I know? and should i change the firmware or just leave it and except 2x? the drive has been working good.

I have a similar issue with a DVD writer - see mythread.

"optorite dd0203 dvd writer always says "insert disk""

Based upon my tests and other posts I have read on various boards I think it is a windows problem, rather than a hardware problem
