NEC ND-3520a Quiting working after less then 3 months

    I just got a Alienware pc for Graduation and got it the 27th. On Sept 2nd I got home and my dvd burner wouldn't Read or Write anything, but it shows up in bios and windows but doesn't see any disc

    any error codes or an exclamation mark in device manager??

    none, that what baffles the hell out of me. It said its running properly

    uninstall the drive in device manager than restart windows to let it load it's own driver. also check with drive manufacturer for a firmware update & proceedure to do that.

    Tryed the Reboot and NEC said do not flash if its not on the oem site and it wasn't

    can you try the drive in another computer to see if a software problem or a hardware problem.

    no but i did install the firmware update the drives orginal was 1.04 and the update was for 3.0 and it didnt work and its not a soft issue since i can't boot off the drive anyways

    but try it in another computer to see if still have problem or not.

    i dont have another cpu i could put it in, all i have is a imac a ibook and a laptop

    i have no friends with even cpus powerfull enought to try it out and whats a RMA?

    doesn't have to be powerful, even a p2 computer. just to see if reads disks or not. rma is Return Merchandise Authorization.

    Ok after a laser disc cleaner it reads DVDs but not cds, btw since its alienware they would just send me a new drive after i call them

    it was the top of the line Alienware ALX with a amd FX55 duel nvidia 6800 sli 512 mbs, 2 dvd burners, 800 gigs of hd
