I know this gets asked alot, "What is the best system to build" well as time goes on the answere changes. But here is where I am at. I am up to building a new from scratch system. I already know how to do so. The problem is that to many different choices became available since my last build.

My main aim is for a big time frame slamming game maching. Im talking the newest game not even out yet and it runs at high frames. Also some minor buisness stuff. The only CPU I will go with is AMD. Sorry no intel suggestions. Also prone to WD. Kind of hopeing for a micro. DVD burning of course blue ray not needed.

Here is the best part money is not a limit although I would like to stay between 1K and 2K (USD) before the monitor. Already have the monitor worked out. SO then go at it. What would be the best way to go at this. Not using any old parts all new.

I am looking to put XP on this knowing it will kill me from getting dx10. If can you convince me Vista is stable enough now then I might go for that. Leave OS price out of your machine suggestions. All Im asking is what hardware.

    Thanks

next month nvidia and ati will release a new series of video cards. so you should wait until next month to build or just use onboard video until then. performance is not known at the moment but nvidia's gpu's will be more expensive. the 4870 is supposed to be around $300 and outperform most cards on the market right now.

I guess mesuaring speed has also changed. Says that processor is 2.5Gh. being a quad would that mean its a 2.5 x4 and all 4 running at 2.5 or the entire processor runs at 2.5 constantly? My last builds where in 2004. Im used to AMD rting the processors based on function level to intel. For example amd3200 should run the same as intel 3.2G while actualy running at 1.2Gh or something like that. I agree on that choice and the order is in. This would force me into Vista XP does not handle quads.

amd does not do that anymore because their cpus are slower than intels. since it is a quad core it has four cpus running at 2.5ghz. xp handles quads just fine, there is no need to move to vista yet.
