all right heres the problem. my mother bricked her laptop by shuting it off when it was updateing itself. i don't know why but she did. i know all i need to do is reformat the thing, but the thing is if i do that i will lose a ton of music that i had backed up on it. so what i need to do is find away to access the hard drive to get the files off the drive. is there a way i can do this so i can back up all that media and then reformat it? thanks. ps the laptop was only a few months old, and i hadn't felt the need to back it up yet, so theres no restore points. oh and i don't know if this helps but, you turn it on and it starts up normally untill it checks for updates before windows is acctually open, then it restarts itself.
sorry for the double post but i really need help with this, if anyone is out there that has any ideas on how to help that would be great, or even a way just to get it to a point before the update.
Well dude, you just got me to join AfterDawn just so I could pass on this link to you: http://www.theeldergeek.com/repairing_windows_xp.htm I just hope you have a regular WindowsXP CD and not a "restore disk" - most of those automatically format the drive! Good luck with it.
